Symptom
You want to offer your website visitor an encrypted (https://) connection. The free SSL/TLS host computer certificate is insufficient for that. You need an SSL/TLS certificate that is created for your own domain name.
Solution
SSL/TLS encrypts data of a website on their way between browser and server. SSL/TLS is best practice for customer data, e.g. in online shops. Before website owners had to lease an expensive SSL certificate from a trust center, which confirmed the site's identity, if they wanted to encrypt their site with SSL/TLS. This is a thing of the past.
On your Bitpalace Business Booster you can create your own SSL/TLS certificate for each of your domains. The certificate is signed by the "Let's Encrypt" trust center and is accepted by practically all major web browsers. "Let's Encrypt" is an IT industry initiative of leading IT companies who strive to make the Internet a safer place.
Once your own SSL/TLS certificate has been installed the visitors of your domain can open your website with http:// (not encrypted) and https:// (encrypted). There are no costs, neither for the set-up, nor for continuous operations. Here is how you can create your free SSL/TLS certificate and activate SSL/TLS for your domain:
1. Log-in to your customer control panel of your host, e.g. "https://elbe.bitpalast.net:8843". The name of your host and your credentials for the customer control panel can be found in the server welcome mail that you have received at the beginning of your contract term.
2. Click on the "Websites & Domains" tab.
3. If the icons of the domain from which you want to see the log files are not displayed, click on the "Show more" link. (Normally this section is already visible, so you can skip this step.)
4. Click on the "SSL/TLS Certificates" icon.
5. In the section "Install a free basic certificate provided by Let's Encrypt" click on the "Install" button.
6. Check the boxes "Include a 'www' subdomain for the domain and each selected alias" and "Secure webmail on this domain".
7. Click the "Get it free" button.
Your certificate will be installed within seconds. SSL will be switched on in the hosting settings of the domain and the new certificate will be selected for it. Your website will immediately become available via SSL/TLS.
